Welcome to Lifestyle Medicine of New Jersey website – First Blog Entry
This is the first blog entry for this website. I hope you find our blog and products enjoyable. You will find that the information in this blog and website will be kept simple, practical, and with a fair amount of humor.
I am a full-time emergency medicine physician and truthfully, for the past 2 months, I have not been able to sit down and find the time to create an entry. Many readers of this blog are probably in similar circumstances with their own daily lives. My website host has been nagging me to produce an entry to keep content fresh on the website, so I guess now is the time. (She is truthfully an excellent website designer and host- I would say the same even if she was not reading this blog entry).
Here is my report for today:
I am 37 years old and faced with the challenges of getting older, including balding, skin concerns including dry skin on hands, callouses on hands and feet. Oh by the way, if you check out my picture, you see I have red hair and have not tanned a day in my life.
This is relevant, you will see why.
It was today 4/26/08 that I was faced with the daunting task of getting my 5 year old ready for his soccer practice. I would be watching him play, the whole event would last an hour and expose me to the ultraviolet rays of the April sun. I have sunburned, even in the middle of winter of frigid New Jersey.
Anyway, I took a shower this morning prior to practice. I used my Revita shampoo this morning and use it once a day. I have been using this for over 1 year. This shampoo has pro-stimulant hair growth activities. It has a nice smell to it and leaves my hair soft. The nurses at work have noticed my hair has gotten thicker especially in the front. They do not know what I have been using. It has not filled in my bald spot on the vertex of my head but is probably helping to contribute to the detoxification of my scalp.
When getting dressed, I immediately reach for my Ultra Heel and Elbow cream and apply to my cracked and calloused feet and put my socks on over my lotioned feet. I have flat feet and probably walk over 3 miles a day at work managing patients in the busy emergency department. When I have a flare-up of cracked skin, I use the Ultra heel and elbow every day for 2 weeks and back off to 2-3 times a week maintenance after yet. This product is great, I have tried so many over the counter products that have not worked as well as this.
My left shoulder has been killing me for months, I probably have tendonitis and have not been consistent taking motrin for this. I have a sample of a product called mobicosa whose active ingredients come from New Zealand mussels and is a homeopathic product. I rub this product into my shoulder at affected spot. I have been taking this for about 3 days, on day 1 I did not feel much of difference, yesterday morning my shoulder felt the best it has in months. I keep telling my wife the tendonitis is from giving her daily back massages with my left hand to help her fall asleep, she is not buying this theory, I wonder why! You can read details of this product at mobicosa.net. If I continue to get great results with this product, look for it to be sold on this website.
I then went downstairs to have breakfast. I finished my breakfast, helped my son get dressed and realized that I had 5-10 minutes to myself. I darted upstairs to where my Erchonia Hair Growth laser is charged. I set the timer for four minutes and lased (is this a real word?) my bald spot. I have access to real life pictures of clients in a US Hair Growth Center. Nine months of use of laser and the growth centers topical products leaves amazing results. I guess I will be this website’s own guinea pig. I have been using the laser for only 1 week, too soon to see a difference. This laser feels solid, is FDA approved and backed by a top notch company. These are not the cheap lasers made in China that are sold through TV infomercials at three in the morning.
Recently I tried rubbing essential oils into my scalp, I used for about 1 month. I did not give this enough time to work I am sure, but it was inconvenient, oily, smelled nasty, and would stain pillow cases and sheets — not the right option for me. I have also had problems with some topical agents that may be effective that contain minoxidil and/or aminexiline. I used these products for about 2 weeks apiece, but I could not get past sensitivity related to alcohol bases that are in these products. My scalp broke out in a rash and became extremely itchy. I developed a classic contact dermatitis that resolved with stopping use of the product within days.
Right before walking out the door, I applied Anthelios sunscreen with an SPF of 15. Anthelios also protects against the wrinkling UVA rays as well. This product is marketed as a moisturizer with the added benefit of sunscreen protection as well. I chose this product because it is not sticky or grimy and feels smooth when applied. If I knew I would be out all day in the sun, I probably would have reached for our private labeled sunscreens sold on this site which have higher SPF ratings than Anthelios, have 100% UVA protection, but can tend to stain white clothes if the sunscreen when applied touches a shirtsleeve for example.
We made it to my son’s soccer game on time. Who said doctors are always late for scheduled appointments?
